Choosing Between PET Jars, Containers and Bottles for Food Packaging

Food and beverage brands frequently default to a bottle format because it is familiar, then spend months managing problems that a different container would have avoided. Format selection deserves more attention than it usually receives, because it constrains everything downstream.

Opening Size Determines Usability

The most practical distinction between a bottle and a jar is the neck opening. Narrow necks work for liquids that pour. Anything thick, granular, or scooped needs a wide mouth.

Filling Line Compatibility

Shelf Presence Is a Real Constraint

Wide-mouth jars often present better for premium positioning, while slim bottles maximise units per facing. That is a commercial decision as much as a technical one.

Specialised Ranges Solve Specific Problems

Test With the Actual Product

Sample containers filled with water tell you very little. Fill with the real product, store under realistic conditions, and transport it the way it will actually be distributed.

Problems surface in that testing far more cheaply than they do after a commercial launch. Format decisions are difficult and expensive to reverse once tooling exists, which is precisely why the time spent choosing properly repays itself.
